Distgen Westray Secures £550,000 in Just 21 Hours on Triodos Platform to Upgrade Wind Turbine with Larger V47 Model
We’re proud to share that our latest £550,000 bond offer on the Triodos Bank UK crowdfunding platform was fully subscribed in just 21 hours — a testament to the growing support for community-scale renewable energy.
This funding will allow us to partially repower our operational turbine on the island of Westray in Orkney. We plan to replace the current V39 nacelle and rotor with a larger and more efficient V47 model. This upgrade will extend the turbine’s lifespan, increase energy output, and reduce maintenance costs — all while supporting our broader mission of creating a circular economy model for wind power.
We’re incredibly grateful to the like-minded investors who joined us on this journey. Your support strengthens the UK’s transition to clean energy and ensures we continue delivering reliable, sustainable power to local communities.
Thank you for being part of the solution.

Learn more about this turbine
The wind turbine generates in excess of 1200 MWh’s of clean electricity each year.
Within the Orkney Islands potential generation from renewables exceeds both local consumption and capacity of sub-sea cables back to the mainland. As a result the local operator (SHEPD) operate a smart grid system which monitors grid conditions and issues curtailment orders to generators on the scheme.

Background & history
The islands of Orkney are mainly low lying and most of the farmland is devoted to sheep and cattle.
All of the islands benefit greatly from tourism and are dependent on the regular ferry services and light aircraft that shuttle passengers and freight between them and mainland.
